As a Personnel Security Specialist GS-0080-9, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:
Responsible for carrying out major aspects of Bureau of Trust Funds Administration (BTFA) Personnel Security program for all of BTFA with exception of complex type cases. Accountable for initiating background investigation (at the level prescribed by the Position Designation Report generated from the Position Designation Tool) and the review and pre-screening of applicants, volunteers, contractors and other entities seeking employment. Responsible for the review, analysis and adjudication of background investigations completed by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), state criminal history checks and Local Law Enforcement Inquiries (LLEIs) to ensure applicants, employees, contractors (including employees of contractors), tribal users and volunteers are suitable for Federal employment, suitable to be in direct contact with Federal Information Technology (IT) resources or classified information. Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through Nation Service programs (e.g. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps) and other organizations. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. One (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service that includes:
Experience initiating, reviewing, and adjudicating background investigation to determine if the person meets security standards; experience making recommendations to resolve the impact of various kinds of derogatory information on the granting or denying interim eligibility; making determinations in accordance with regulations of personnel security. Or - Possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as criminal justice, security management or psychology. Or- Have combination of specialized experience (as define in A above) and education (as defined in B above) that equates to one full year of experience to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts to support this education, and your resume must support the experience). Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. Time-In-Grade Requirements:
Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
