Introduction
Merrick & Company is looking for an experienced Sr. Structural Designer to provide Structural Design support for multiple Merrick Business Units.
This position could be located in any of these offices:
Merritt Island, FL
Albuquerque, NM;
Greenwood Village, CO;
San Antonio, TX; or
Duluth, GA office.
This is a mid to senior-level position, providing structural BIM support to the structural project teams, assisting in the preparation of project submittals and mentoring less experienced staff. Must also possess a strong understanding of structural systems for buildings and be able to develop structural construction documents with minimal supervision for all common structural systems for buildings.
Must exhibit excellent time management skills and participates in the development and implementation of project schedules/deadlines.
Job Responsibilities
Working closely with project stakeholders to obtain project information and ensuring structural drawings are accurate and complete.
Creating and maintaining composite files, running clash detection and ensuring structural BIM models are accurate.
Interpreting schematic drawings, layouts and other visual aids.
Producing structural models and structural construction documents that comply with design criteria, contract requirements and applicable codes.
Coordinating models among multiple disciplines.
Working to resolve conflicts with other disciplines.
Adhering to BIM Execution Plan and BIM project workflow criteria.
Following BIM content standards and development procedures.
Maintaining and archiving electronic drawing files in an organized manner.
Creating and organizing drawings from BIM models including development of plans, sections, and details.
Developing documentation of structural drawings.
Mentoring/coaching less experienced staff.
Developing solutions for complex design problems in conjunction with project leaders.
Preparing design review submittals for large projects.
Reviewing and evaluating structural documents for accuracy and coordination among disciplines.
Job Requirements
We are ideally seeking a candidate with the following qualifications, knowledge, skills and abilities:
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience drafting structural drawings for complex buildings.
Ability to lay out structural grids, beams, girders, joists, foundations and to cut appropriate sections and details to communicate structural design effectively with very little input from the structural engineer.
Ideal candidate would be able to complete the structural drawings to an 80% level with only verbal instructions from the structural engineer.
Ability to read output from structural analysis programs and label sizes of members in the construction drawings appropriately.
BIM platform REVIT knowledge is required.
Experience in AutoCAD is a plus.
Computer software skills: Basic PowerPoint: Intermediate Word, Outlook: Advanced Excel.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
Client projects for this position require US Citizenship.
