Department Description: The Military Systems & Analysis Department (6114) is a customer focused organization engaged in a number of projects for the Department of Defense (DoD) and military services to address and solve a wide variety of complex analytic challenges. The department's professional staff have a variety of expertise, skills and experience in systems engineering, industrial engineering, statistics, math, operations research, computer science and systems analysis capabilities that are leveraged to provide our customers with advanced modeling, simulation and analysis technologies to address some of their toughest challenges. The types of analytics provided to our customers include: complex System-of-Systems (SoS) analyses, enterprise-scale modeling, simulation and analysis, systems reliability and advanced optimization applications. Customers and programs include: the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) program for developing Science and Technology for Unmanned Autonomous Systems Test and Evaluation, long term modeling and analysis support to the US Army's transformation and modernization programs for both current and future ground combat systems and their associated defense industrial base, the Army Aviation Enterprise concept development for enhanced product life cycle management and force generation capabilities, the Joint Program Office for the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicle fleet management and modernization project and the SoS reliability analysis for PEO Littoral Mine Warfare (LMW). New challenges being pursued for our DoD customers are focused on their power and energy analytic needs to assess emerging technologies, analyze energy security vulnerabilities and plan for an optimized mix of current energy technologies combined with renewable and future energy sources. The Department's expanding business has created immediate openings for systems analysts who can quickly familiarize themselves with Sandia-developed and commercial modeling and simulation tools and use these tools to analyze complex military systems and technologies. The technical work involves developing and executing innovative approaches, analytic architectures, methods and tools to address a wide range of analysis challenges for current and future systems, system of systems and technologies being conceptualized, designed, developed and tested for the DOE, DoD and military services. Candidates should have an advanced science or engineering-related degree (MS or higher) with experience in systems an system of systems (SoS) analysis and engineering together with experience using numerical modeling, simulation, optimization, and analysis tools. Experience performing reliability analysis is desirable. Experience in analyzing military systems is helpful, as is an understanding of military operations and processes.
Successful candidates will be expected to work as part of multi-disciplinary teams in a supportive technical environment and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced technical environment that is highly customer-oriented. Researches, evaluates, designs, and develops system solutions addressing national security challenges. Knowledge of military systems/platforms, power and energy systems, and logistics and supply systems is valuable, as is experience in analyzing complex systems with limited data.
Experience with specialized simulation tools, state modeling, systems engineering, numerical methods, statistics, and optimization.
Experience with commercial simulation tools such as Arena is useful, as is knowledge of Visual Studio .NET, C#, or other high level programming languages. Security Clearance: Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted Q-level security clearance. An SCI will be processed upon selection which may require polygraph testing.
