Our client is seeking a Senior Network Engineer in Albuquerque, NM. EITS Network Operations Team is seeking a results-oriented, self-motivated network engineer who will be responsible for securing, upgrading and maintaining network infrastructures across multiple government field sites, using Local Area Network (LAN), Metro Area Network (MAN), and Wide Area Network (WAN) technologies. The engineer will deploy Cisco switches, routers and firewalls using network virtualization technologies to achieve cost savings by securely supporting multiple customers over one physical network infrastructure. The engineer will lead and contribute to network implementation projects and consult with other EITS Operations Team members, while also assisting with the maintenance of the existing network environment and troubleshooting network problems. This engineer will work as part of a team that is responsible for the operation of a large U.S. federal government network and must ensure each change to the environment is clearly documented, to include creating and updating all related security plans, engineering documents, topology drawings, and IP addressing assignments.
Create project plans and presentations for executive-level management, and technical working diagrams and checklists for operations staff.
Develop standard operating procedures.
Submit change control proposals for the CAB (CM Change Approval Board).
Develop and update technical documentation (network architecture text and diagrams, security plan controls annex and risk assessment, etc.) in support of certification and accreditation for the network.
Assist and lead problem resolution activities: coordinating with Cisco TAC, vendors, and carriers, tracking and escalating trouble tickets, identify and implement workarounds, perform root cause analysis, and interface with customers at all levels to report status and lessons-learned.
The ideal candidate will have recent, relevant and verifiable experience documenting, implementing and troubleshooting nationwide and campus networks built using Cisco network devices (Catalyst 3750 & 6500 switches, Nexus 5000 switches, Cisco 3800 & 7200 routers, and Cisco ASA 5500-series security appliances).
Demonstrated ability to prepare diagrams and documentation for multiple audiences.
Must have recent, relevant and verifiable experience configuring routing protocols, applying route filters and troubleshooting enterprise and/or service provider Internet edge and backbone routers running BGP, EIGRP and OSPF.
Must demonstrate SME level understanding of BGP in a multi-homed/multi-carrier environment.
Recent experience supporting multi-VRF networks using BGP and MPLS is a plus.
Must have excellent problem solving skills and a solid understanding of how to troubleshoot connectivity, performance, and QOS issues that involve routers, firewalls, network applications, and circuits (T-1, T-3, OC-3, 12, 192), ISDN, HDLC, PPP, ATM, Frame Relay, and MPLS).
Must have 10
years of relevant and verifiable experience in network operations roles and an Subject Matter Expert understanding of current and emerging networks
