RECREATION SPECIALISTDescriptionPosition SummaryAssists in the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of the Pueblo's total wellbeing initiatives.
Develops programs that create wellness, motivation and provides tools to tribal and community members that help them adapt and maintain a well-rounded healthy lifestyle.
Supervision ExercisedSupervised by the Recreation & Wellness Administrator.
Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssists in planning and implementing multifaceted program(s) designed to meet the health and recreational needs of Pueblo residents.
Assists in scheduling and publicizing activities and events aimed at meeting the needs and interests of Pueblo residents to include the use of equipment and the facility.
Assists in developing, reviewing, and evaluating program effectiveness/objectives and redesigning programs/objectives as necessary.
Assists in drafting and monitoring budgetary expenditures for Center operations; maintenance and repair of existing and additional equipment.
Assists in maintaining a comprehensive inventory on all equipment and Center components needing maintenance work to include frequency of inspection, adjustment, and service and repair requirements.
Conducts inspections on facilities and equipment to ensure that operating procedures are in compliance and maintenance repairs/improvements are being performed.
Recommends building modifications as necessary.
Ensures that facilities and equipment meet safety and health codes and rectifies unsafe conditions.
Oversees and monitors the use of the Center by tenants and clients.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned commensurate to the grade level assigned.

Ability to draft complex special-use reports and documents.
Ability to communicate positively with the Tribal and general community.
Ability to implement a program designed to encourage the use of Center programs and equipment.
Ability to draft and give public reports.
Knowledge of Wellness Center operations required.
Knowledge of the processes used in the development of health and recreational programs required.
Knowledge of and ability to develop and administer a budget.
Knowledge of Native American cultures, traditions, and practices.
Knowledge of repair and maintenance requirements for a large building or facility.
Knowledge of community social, health, and fitness problems.
Knowledge of processes used in organizational development and planning processes.
RequirementsMinimum Qualifications, Education and ExperienceRequiredHigh School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
Three (3) years education from an accredited college or university and one (1) year facility and/or recreational management experience.
Any combination of education and experience totaling four (4) years may substitute for required education and experience, but must include two (2) years supervisory experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver's License.
Must have, or be willing to work toward, certification in the following:
Fitness/Health Certifications through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) orThe American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) orKenneth Cooper's Aerobic Research Institute Certification andCPR Certification.
Licensing StatusMust be able to successfully pass a Background and Character Investigation in compliance with PL 101.

Ability to obtain and maintain any other licenses and/or certifications as determined by management.
Working ConditionsWork is performed mostly indoors, but some outdoor work is required.
Subject to noise levels, odors, dusts, fumes, and gases.
Will require working odd and unusual hours.
Duties may involve walking, standing, crouching, and kneeling.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
